Genetics and epigenetics of heredity

We had previously evidenced in mice a mode of RNA-mediated inheritance of phenotypes (Nature, 2006, 441:469). We are proposing RNA molecules carried by the spermatozoon to the oocyte, transgenerational vectors of the epigenetic information. We are currently considering whether such a mode of RNA-mediated transmission could explain the non-Mendelian inheritance of acquired characters (obesity/diabetes) and of neurological diseases.
