My group uses the C. elegans embryo and human cells to study the mechanisms of symmetric and asymmetric cell divisions, and how defects in these processes affect the development of an organism. To investigate the principles and molecular pathways underlying cell polarity establishment and (a)symmetric cell divisions, we exploit a combination of genetics, cell biology, biochemistry and mathematical modelling.
Keywords: Asymmetric and symmetric cell division / cell polarity / PAR proteins / Polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) / cell cycle progression / stress granules
