We investigate the physical processes relevant to the formation and functioning of spindles. We also explore the role of mitotic errors on karyotype evolution across multiple cell divisions. We develop theoretical models in which we employ statistical physics and classical mechanics as well as the known physical properties of microtubules and molecular motors, and test our predictions with experiments performed by our collaborators.
