My lab studies the creative strategies viruses use to manipulate their host cells and the range of host defense mechanisms. We are interested in deciphering the roles of viral factors during infection, as well as how viruses interface with cellular pathways. We study these events using mainly human cytomegalovirus, a herpesvirus that infects the majority of the world's population, leading to disease in newborns and immunocompromised adults.
