My laboratory has been working on intracellular degradation systems, focusing on autophagy and related pathways. We have identified molecules involved in autophagy, developed monitoring methods, and revealed pathophysiological roles of autophagy in mammals. We pursue multidisciplinary studies using a variety of techniques including biochemistry, fluorescence and electron microscopy, mouse and zebrafish genetics, and mathematical modeling.
