A major focus of my research is to study the pathogenesis of viral diseases, particularly HIV-1/AIDS, and devise innovative therapy and vaccine strategies. Primary interests include the structure-function relationships of the HIV-1 envelope, aimed at the rational design of effective vaccine immunogens, and the role and mechanism of action of endogenous antiviral factors, especially chemokines, that can influence the course of HIV-1 disease.
