Mitochondria fulfil key functions in cellular metabolism. In our work, we investigate the biogenesis of mitochondrial proteins and aim to understand how dysfunction in the biogenesis process lead to human disorders. In this context, we investigate mechanisms of mitochondrial protein import, biogenesis of the OXPHOS system, and how mitochondrial gene expression is regulated to match cellular demands.
