We study fundamental mechanisms in membrane traffic with emphasis on membrane dynamics at neuronal synapses. Our work has shed light on the molecular machinery of membrane fission, implicated phosphoinositide metabolism in the regulation of endocytic membrane traffic and revealed new principles in the acquisition of membrane curvature. More recently we have become interested in the inter-organelle communication mediated by membrane contact sites
