Molecular basis of bacterial biofilm formation

Our research focuses on the signal transducing mechanisms and regulatory networks that underly bacterial stress responses and biofilm formation, in particular of commensal and pathogenic Escherichia coli. This includes molecular mechanisms of transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene regulation, second messenger-mediated signal transduction (mainly c-di-GMP) and regulated proteolysis, which are all linked together in a systems biology perspective of complex bacterial regulatory circuits.
