My focus is on the neurobiology of learning and memory and the application of this work to develop new therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease. Scientific achievements include development of the watermaze (to study spatial memory); discovery of the role of the NMDA receptor in memory encoding; joint development (with Frey) of the synaptic tagging and capture hypothesis; research on the neurobiology of prior knowledge (schemas).
