The heart is the first organ to function in the mammalian embryo and is highly susceptible to genetic perturbations leading to congenital malformations. We seek to understand the molecular basis of heart patterning and organogenesis, the relationships between organ form and function, and the logic and evolution of regulatory networks. We study how these processed relate to the causation of congenital heart disease and to cardiac regeneration.
