HIV neutralisation by llama H-chain antibodies

Camels, llamas and related animals make single chain functional antibodies in addition to conventional IgG. Thus we can rapidly screen for variable regions (VHH) from phage libraries. In collaboration with colleagues at the University of Utrecht we have exploited this technology to isolate and characterise potent, broadly neutralising VHH for diverse HIV-1 strains for vaccine and microbicide development..
