Mitochondrial calcium signalling
My group has been traditionally focused on the study of mitochondrial calcium homeostasis, and its role in physiology and disease. In 2011 we molecularly characterized the mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake pathway, identifying the long-sought mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU). This molecular information allows now to investigate the structure/function relationship of this novel channel and its function in cultured cells and whole animals.
