My research team applies functional genomics approaches to define the pathogenic processes used by bacteria to cause disease in humans. Our primary focus is Staphylococcus aureus and its ability to cause bacteraemia, but we also study Streptococcus pneumoniae, where we develop and apply genome-wide association approaches, followed up with molecular validation to uncover novel virulence factors utilised by these major human pathogens.
