We study the molecular mechanisms underlying clathrin-mediated endocytosis (CME) using molecular cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics and quantitative live-cell total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy. We have identified and analyzed many factors required for CME, and determined the mechanism of action of the GTPase dynamin, which regulates early stages of CME and drives membrane fission to release coated vesicles.
