Our lab studies the determinants of bacterial morphogenesis and growth at the single-cell level. For example, we study how bacteria increase their cell envelope in response to biomass accumulation, how they control their own cell shape through cell-envelope remodeling, and how they decide to divide in response to growth and chromosome replication. We use approaches that include microscopy, microfluidics, physical modeling, and genetics.
