Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures at the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes that protect the chromosome ends from degradation and inter-chromosome fusion. Telomeres are essential for maintaining genome stability and their dysfunction is associated with cancers and aging. My group studies the mechanisms and the regulation of telomere maintenance across species, and how disease mutations give rise to dysfunctional telomeres.
