Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures at the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes that protect the chromosome ends from degradation and inter-chromosome fusion. Telomeres are thus essential for maintaining genome stability. Telomere dysfunction has been implicated in cancers and aging. My laboratory aims to understand the molecular mechanisms and the regulation of telomere maintenance, and how disease mutations give rise to dysfunctional telomeres.
