Developmental principles of drug abuse

Our work addresses the developmental design of neuroendocrine centers in the mammalian hypothalamus, with a focus on brain-wide and hierarchical connectivity and neuropeptide signals. Through a translational approach, we ask how the maternal abuse of illicit/prescription drugs during pregnancy can impose lifelong modifications to neuronal circuits and neuroendocrine modules, which then manifest as metabolic diseases in affected offspring.
