My group is interested in prokaryotic protein secretion systems. Currently, we work on two bacterial protein export pathways, the twin-arginine protein transport (Tat) pathway and the Type VII protein secretion system. We use biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and structural biology to dissect out the mechanism of protein translocation by these machineries and the physiological roles of secreted substrates.
