My research addresses how viruses of animals adapt to cause human pandemics. My lab's most significant discovery is the identity of a host factor, ANP32, co-opted by influenza virus to support RNA replication. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we pivoted to study SARS-CoV-2 and its variants. We employ molecular virology and in vivo approaches including human challenge to understand airborne transmission.
