My research focuses on how gene expression in human cells regulates cell proliferation and differentiation. To understand this regulation, my laboratory uses the human pathogen herpes simplex virus as a probe to elucidate mechanisms of combinatorial action of viral and cellular regulatory proteins. These studies elucidate the interplay of sequence-specific regulators and chromatin-modifying activities in the regulation of gene expression.
